# Whitepaper Foundation models in Aiforia

Learn how Aiforia incorporates foundation models into the semantic segmentation, object detection, and instance segmentation workflows in Aiforia® Create, Aiforia’s versatile tool for developing AI models for image analysis in digital pathology.

This whitepaper covers:

- The main differences between foundation models and CNNs.
- How foundation models can be used to reduce the annotation workload and to increase the robustness of AI models for image analysis.
- The performance of a foundation model on an example use case: semantic segmentation for Gleason grading
